What trenchless sewer repair is
Traditional sewer repair means a trench across the yard, and often through a driveway or patio. Trenchless repair reaches the pipe through one or two small access points instead.
There are two methods. Pipe lining (cured-in-place pipe, or CIPP) pulls a resin-soaked liner through the old pipe and cures it into a new, jointless pipe inside the old one. Pipe bursting pulls a new pipe through while breaking the old one outward into the soil.
Every job starts with a camera inspection. We recommend trenchless only when it is the better repair for your line. When it is not, we say so and explain what excavation would involve. You get before-and-after footage either way.
Signs you need trenchless sewer repair
- Backups that return after clearingIf the line clogs again within weeks or months, the pipe itself is the problem.
- Damage confirmed on cameraRoots, cracked walls, shifted joints, or partial collapse, in a pipe still sound enough to line or burst.
- A sewer smell without a blockageA hairline crack releases sewer gas before it causes a backup. Lining can seal it early.

- The line runs under a driveway or landscapingTrenchless should be the first option considered.
- The line runs close to the foundationMinimal-access methods are easier on nearby structures.

Trenchless Sewer Repair questions
How does trenchless sewer repair work?
The repair is made through one or two access points. Either a liner is cured in place inside the old pipe, or a new pipe is pulled through while the old one is broken outward.
What is the difference between pipe lining and pipe bursting?
Lining keeps the old pipe and builds a new one inside it, which works when the pipe is largely intact. Bursting replaces the pipe and is used when the old one is too damaged to line.
Is trenchless repair more expensive than digging?
Once you count restoring a lawn, driveway, or landscaping, the totals are often comparable. We give you a side-by-side comparison after the inspection.
How long does it take?
Most jobs take one to two days. A liner needs several hours to cure; bursting is usually faster.
How long does a trenchless repair last?
Liners are designed to last 50 years or more when properly installed. They have no joints for roots to enter. A burst-in pipe lasts as long as any new pipe.
Is there any digging at all?
A little. Access is needed at each end of the section being repaired, usually one or two small holes.
Is my pipe a candidate?
The camera inspection answers that. Lining suits root intrusion, cracks, and corrosion in a pipe that still holds its shape. A fully collapsed pipe can often still be replaced by bursting.
What customers say
★★★★★
Great experience with Miguel and Steven! Fixed my stubborn kitchen sink clog. Very informative and respectful of my home in addressing the issue. Highly recommend!
★★★★★
I had an excellent experience with SoCal 1 Plumbing! Eliass came out to clear a blockage in my kitchen line by snaking it through the outside wall clean-out, and everything was done efficiently and with great care. He also installed new tubular drains under my kitchen sink to stop the leaks I’d been dealing with. The work was high-quality, and they even provided a 1-year warranty on parts and labor, which gave me peace of mind. Highly recommend their professional and reliable service!
