Why look before you repair
Sewer problems develop underground for years. By the time you see a backup, smell an odor, or find a soggy patch in the yard, the cause could be roots, a cracked pipe, a low spot, or a collapse, and each one calls for a different repair.
A waterproof camera on a flexible cable goes in through a clean-out and travels the length of the line. You watch the screen with the plumber, who explains what is normal and what is not, and where each problem sits.
People book an inspection for four reasons: backups that keep returning, a repair quote they want to verify, a house they are buying or selling, or an older home whose sewer has never been checked. You leave with written findings either way, including when the line is in good shape.
Signs you need sewer camera inspection
- Backups that return after clearingThe camera shows whether it is roots, a low spot collecting debris, or damage to the pipe.
- Before a major repairSee the footage before you agree to work that can cost thousands.
- Buying or selling a houseA standard home inspection does not include the sewer line.
- A home 30 or more years old, never scopedOlder homes often have clay or cast iron laterals, which wear out and attract roots.
- A repair was quoted without footageAsking to see the inside of the pipe is reasonable.
- Slow drains throughout the houseThe camera shows whether the fix is jetting, repair, or lining.
- A sewer smell with no backupThe camera finds the crack or failed joint without any demolition.

Sewer Camera Inspection questions
What does a sewer camera inspection involve?
A waterproof camera on a flexible cable is fed through an existing clean-out. You watch the footage live and get written findings afterward.
What can the camera find?
Roots, cracks and breaks, shifted joints, low spots, heavy grease or scale, corrosion in old cast iron, and full or partial collapse. It can also confirm a line is in good condition.
How long does it take?
Most house inspections take 30 to 60 minutes including the review. Difficult access or a long line can take up to 90 minutes.
Do I need a camera inspection before every sewer repair?
Before any significant one, yes. If you already have footage from another company, we review it and run the camera again only if it is unclear or out of date.
Can I get a recording?
Yes. Mention it when you book.
Should I get one when buying a house?
Yes, especially for an Orange County home built before 1985. Clay and cast iron laterals can be badly deteriorated with no sign inside the house.
What customers say
★★★★★
Great experience with Miguel and Steven! Fixed my stubborn kitchen sink clog. Very informative and respectful of my home in addressing the issue. Highly recommend!
★★★★★
I had an excellent experience with SoCal 1 Plumbing! Eliass came out to clear a blockage in my kitchen line by snaking it through the outside wall clean-out, and everything was done efficiently and with great care. He also installed new tubular drains under my kitchen sink to stop the leaks I’d been dealing with. The work was high-quality, and they even provided a 1-year warranty on parts and labor, which gave me peace of mind. Highly recommend their professional and reliable service!
★★★★★
I had a plumbing issue that needed to be repaired sooner than later. Miguel came out and knew how to fix it immediately. Miguel was professional, friendly and knowledgeable. I won't hesitate to call them in the future.
